X-Windows
Client- Introduction
The
Fax2Send X-Windows Client is loaded by the Installation wizard by default providing
the environment variable is set for X-Windows. This can be seen if the Wizard
runs in graphical mode (rather than at the command line).
When Fax2Send
server is installed the option to place a Fax2Send icon on the desktop is given
(default), this will launch the xfax2send program which place this dialog
box on the desktop.
This page
shows screen shots of all the Fax2Send X-Windows client dialogs with a brief
description of the available functionality.
All Fax2Send
client are free of charge.
Brief
list of Features and functions
- Create,
view, annotate, re-send and print faxes or onward route faxes as email
- 'Explorer'
view to look at all queues and system status

tool to graphically manage all aspects of the Fax2Send server

xfax2send
launch box
This is
the application launcher for all the X-Windows Client functions. The labels
shown below the image are to indicate what the buttons are for, they do not
appear on-screen but pop-up text does if you hover over the button. Clicking
on the appropriate button will take you to the dialog box that would open if
you were using it providing your browser supports image maps.
Status
Shows the
current status of Fax2Send Server and launches the Fax2Send Status dialog box

Key to buttons
Options:
- Viewer
- There is a choice of viewer depending on your Linux distribution. This is
a third-party product not supplied by us. The Viewer Options button opens
a dialog box which will enable you to change the standard (KView)
- Timed
Send allows the fax to be sent at a selected time rather than immediately.

box below. The Name can also be typed directly into the box if required

- Two Address
Books are available. The Personal Adress Book is soecific to each user. The
Public Address Book can be seen by all X-Windows Client users
- Double-clicking
on a name will automatically transfer the details to the Compose Fax dialog
- Add
will enable another entry to be added
- Edit
enables existing information to be changed

Config
Dialog Box

The initial
screen shown when the Config Tool is launched from the xfax2send dialog box.
To select any option click on one of the radio buttons
Queue
Settings dialog box

The information
shown for Queue Settings
- Active
Interfaxes
show the services available. preview is the test process that enables
simulation of a fax transmission. It does everything that Send does
bar using the modem.
- Retries
is the number of times the server will try to send a fax if it was unsuccessful
the first time
- Engaged
Retries
is the number of times the server will try to send a fax if for example the
number is engaged. This overides the setting above when an engaged tone is
detected
- Stay
Time
is the length of time in hours that the transmitted fax will remain in the
queue and still be available to look at with the viewer. After this time has
elapsed the queue entry will remain but the fax can no longer be viewed as
the image is no longer available
- Audit
Stay Time
is the time in days that the queue entry will remain
- Max
Batch
is the maximum number of faxes that can be sent together at the same time.
This feature is to save the time of redialing the same number of faxes
in the queue. This setting will overide the order in which faxes are queued
- Sent
Image Cache
is the setting which controls the amount of space used on the server to retain
the images of transmitted faxes
- Received
Image Cache
is the setting which controls the amount of space used on the server to retain
the images of received faxes
- Log
Debug Messages is used for error tracing and should normally be set at
no(default)
Cover
Sheet and Header Line dialog box

This screen
is used to control the information shown on the header line of the Cover Sheet
and which Cover Sheet is used. It also specifies the number of lines that can
be used for typing a message
- Edit
Cover Sheet
launches the cover sheet editor
Address
dialog box

This screen
shows the existing name and address information that will shown on a cover sheet
and enables it to be changed The original information which will be shown was
entered when the Installation Wizard was run.
Fax
to E-Mail Gateway dialog box

This screen
is used to setup the interface for sending faxes by email
E-Mail
to Fax Gateway dialog box

This screen
is used to setup the information used by the E-mail to Fax gateway. This enables
received emails to be onward routed by fax. The entries are largely self explanitory
and therefore not expanded here. Full information is available in the Help pages
when this is set-up. The above information is the default.
Modem
- Faxmodem dialog box

At present
this only shows the information for one fax modem entry which covers the majority
of installed licenses. This will be expanded for multiple modem installations
in a future release.
- Device
is the port to which the modem is connected shown here as an external modem
connected to Serial Port 1. This is normally /dev/modem for internal modems
and /dev/ttys1 if connected to serial port 2
- Lock
File
is used if the modem is shared. This cannot be used if Fax2Send is to be used
to receive faxes but is the default setting send only installations
- Local
ID
This is shown on the header line of the cover sheet
- Init
String
is used to initiate a call to the fax modem
- Reset
String
is the code sent to the fax modem to reset it
- Send
sets the server to be able to send faxes
- Receive
sets the server to be able to receive faxes
- Rings
Before Answer
is used to set the number of rings before the fax server will answer an incoming
call. This parameter is used if the phone line is shared, for example with
a telephone handset in home installations
- Accept
Low Quality Page
- a fax can be sent in high quality (200 dpi) or low quality (100 dpi) this
controls the setting
- Allow
Cancel
if set enables faxes that have not been transmitted to be cancel from the
queue
- Speed
is the baud rate used for fax traffic
- Predial
String
controls settings such as tone or pulse dialing, pre-dialing numbers such
as 9 (for an outside line if on an extention) or pauses to be entered
- Flow
Control
is the method used to control the fax modem
- Enable
Speaker
allows the speaker setting to be changed
- Scan
Time
is the time setting for scanning a fax
PCL
Emulation dialog box

This screen
is for PCL printers (HP LaserJet, the industry standard) and allows choice and
control of the paper size (Letter or A4) and the font set to be chosen. This
is useful if special characters are used such as for French or German
Postscript
Emulation dialog box

Postscript
is more common for Macintosh's or design bureaux or departments and is a printer
control language. Only the page size should be changed unless you posses detailed
technical knowledge of the subject
User
Register dialog box

This shows
the current users that are able to use Fax2Send as well as enabling additional
users to be added. User is the username on a Linux or Unix system or the MS
Windows username. Host is the name of the machine on which they are running,
this is "localhost" if the user is on the Fax2Send server
Control
dialog box

- Start
- Starts the Fax2Send server (started automatically when the Linux system
loads
- Stop
- is used to stop the Fax2Send server
- Restart
- both stops and starts the server. This is typically used if changes have
been made to the configuration using the Config Tool. The configuration file
is only read when the server is started therefore any changes made will not
be recognized until this is done
License
dialog box

This screen
is used to enter the license details once a license has been purchased. With the
evaluation license shown Fax2Send will only run for 30 days before timing out
