Users of older versions of Linux or machines such as the Qube3 can now install the latest release of Fax2Send server. Previously this could not be used as glibc2.2 was expected. Only the full install is available, therefore, users will need to copy any files they wish to retain (e.g. old faxes) before running the install.

Only the tar.gz is available so ideally X-Windows should be installed so that the Installation Wizard is used. Choose item 3 from the download selection.

29 May 2003 - Fax2Send and Red Hat 9.0

There are currently problems with installing the Fax2Send tar.gz with Red Hat 9.0. This means that the Fax2Send X-Windows Client will also not install due to TCL/Tk not being installed on this version of the Red Hat distribution unless the "Full Install" option is chosen.

The WISH download available from our FTP server cannot be installed with this version of the distro. This also means that the Installation Wizard will not run, so Fax2Send Server should be installed using the rpm.

6 May 2003 - Fax2Send email restored

The line problem to the Internet was resolved by BT today at 1210 BST, which is GMT+1. No emails have yet been received as this is dependant on the originating email server re-transmitting them.

6 May 2003 - Fax2Send email services down

Some time overnight, the link from Beacon (Fax2Send authors) to the Internet stopped working. This seems to be a problem with the link to the Internet and is being investigated by BT the telecom carrier. Until such time as it is restored we can't receive any email, although the web and FTP sites are unaffected.

All emails sent in this period will be re-transmitted by the originating server once it is back up, so none should be lost. Some delay in response to support and sales requests will occur. We will answer all queries as soon as possible. Our apologies but this is outside of our control.

Both CLI and DID are not included in fax modem standards therefore it is necessary to write a custom driver as modem manufacturers (if they offer these features) implement them differently.

Note that the error in displaying images on the accompanying html page from the Red Hat Productivity Applications CD is because the wrong image type is in the html code. 24 May 2001 - Problems with de-install

We have been made aware that there are problems with the de-install of the Fax2Send PC Client version 2.1-6 using the unistallShield option. This does NOT affect the proper operation of this version of the PC client.

The uninstallShield (a widely used third-party de-install shell) is supposed to manage the removal of applications by monitoring what components are loaded by the installation procedure. For some reason, not yet understood, the uninstallShield is also removing vital components of MS Windows which prevent it properly running. This occurs even if the option to leave all dll's is taken. Until such time as we have solved this issue we have removed this version of the PC Client from the download page.

What you should do

  • If you are currently running this version ......... Do not un-install it until we have published a patch or provide other advice
  • If you want to download the PC Client there are two options
      1. Use the previous version V2.1-1. Some features are missing but the core product remains the same and the uninstallShield option works successfully
      2. Use the version 2.1-7 currently on beta release - This does not have the option to de-install it using the uninstallShield

We apologise for this problem which lays with the use of a third-party product

      • Messages changed from one In-tray to another are now moved rather than copied
      • The ability to specify a default set of In-trays had been introduced and the server ships as standard with In-trays set-up

30 April 2001 - Update on the Search facility of the Fax2Send web site

We have noticed that some users are having difficulty in finding information on our web site despite using the Search engine. This is because the standard search operates as an "and" search rather than an "or".

For example: MS Windows Client was not found by the standard search because the search was looking for MS and Windows and Client

Solution: Use the Advanced Search engine which provides the choice of "or"

We will also try and cover all the standard searches by adding them to the Key Words on a page

24 April 2001 - Request a Quote

The Partner area of the web site will be expanded to add specific information as well as logos, datasheets and other marketing information

23 April 2001 - Mandrake 8 - difficulties with installing Fax2Send server

We have been made aware that there are difficulties with installing Fax2Send server V2.1-4 on Mandrake 8. These appear to be caused because the command "rcp" is not installed when the recommended option is chosen when loading from scratch. This does not effect upgrades from Mandrake 7.2 to 8 users. We will be releasing a new version of Fax2Send server to address this. In the interim any user who encounters this problem should contact Fax2Send support for assistance.

It is our intention to have all product documentation on-line. This should be completed by the end of April

1 April 2001 - New web site style

We have changed the style of the web site to make it clearer and easier to use. The previous web site had become unmanagable, with some information difficult to find and in more than one place.

Over the next few weeks we will be changing the layout of the web site to simplify the pages and ensure that you are never more than three clicks from anything. The first topic to change will be the Support Section.
