Introduction

ISDN support is provided by the kernel needing at least 2.2 or better, additionally passive cards need ISDN4LINUX. For Fax2Send to work it must see the ISDN T/A as a Class 2 modem attached to a serial port such as /dev/ttyI0. Fax2Send does not support the CAPI interface.

At present ISDN4LINUX provides a Class 1 rather than CLASS 2 or 2.0 interface. Fax2Send does not support this standard, which was designed for single user use, therefore, no passive card will work given the current state of the technology. This may change if ISDN4LINUX is updated to provide a Class 2 or 2.0 interface.

Solution

Eicon have written a driver for use with Fax2Send and volume tested the throughput supporting 72 lines with multiple Diva Server boards sending faxes from a batch process. Their conclusion was that Fax2Send could easily support the number of requests that were generated.

The driver is available for Red Hat and SUSE distributions and can be downloaded form the Eicon web site (be aware this link may change and therefore no longer be valid) and is the same for all Diva Server products. in-put GbR have installed it on SUSE in their customer sites with the Eicon Diva Server 2FX, which is the only validated product at this time, although all Diva Server cards should work.

Conclusion
The only current solution is to use the Eicon Diva Server products until ISDN4LINUX provides a Class 2, rather than a Class 1 interface. Passive ISDN cards cannot be used with Fax2Send.
